Fertility tracking

Know where every cow is in her cycle

Heats, inseminations, pregnancy outcomes and treatments for each animal, with the status and the next dates worked out for you.

  • Log observed and missed heats, so you can see when detection is slipping.
  • Keep each breeding attempt separate from whether it resulted in a pregnancy.
  • See each animal's status and her next expected dates without doing any sums.

Weight tracking

Estimate with a tape, or enter a weight

Estimate weight from two tape measurements or enter it yourself, save each with the animal and compare weights over time.

  • Get a weight in kilograms and pounds from a tape measure, with no scale.
  • Or type in a weight you already know, and save either kind with the animal and see her weight history on a chart.
  • Compare each animal's first and latest weight over any date range.

Milk production

Write every milking down once

Record the litres from every milking per animal, or as the farm's total, then see the farm's totals, a chart of the last month and what is still to log.

  • Type the litres for each animal on one daily sheet, or one total for the whole farm at each milking.
  • See today's total so far, the last 7 days and a chart of the last month.
  • Download daily and monthly CSV reports of the farm's litres, or reports per animal.

Feed and expense tracking

Know what you feed and what you spend

Record the feeds you use, per bag or per kg, the farm's expenses such as salaries and bills, and what a treatment or an insemination cost, then see a monthly summary of what you recorded. On every plan, including Free.

  • List the feeds you use, per bag or per kg, with a price, and enter what was used each day or as one total for the month.
  • Record salaries, electricity and other bills, repairs, transport and vet expenses, and a cost on a treatment or an insemination.
  • See a monthly summary of what was recorded. Workers log the day's feed and never see the money.

Deworming schedule

Keep your farm's deworming schedule in one place

Write your farm's own deworming schedule once, see when each animal is due and record doses for one animal or the whole herd. On the Starter and Growth plans.

  • Write your farm's rules once, in a form, by age or by pregnancy and calving.
  • See each animal as due soon, due today or overdue, with its next date.
  • Record a dose for one animal or for the whole herd in one go.

How it works in three steps

No set-up call and no spreadsheet to build: create a farm, add your animals and start writing things down.

  1. Step 1: Add your animals

Create your farm and add each animal with its tag number, breed and birth date. Choose how you record milk, for each animal or as the farm's total, and how many times a day you milk.

  2. Step 2: Record as it happens

Log a heat, an insemination, a pregnancy check or a treatment, save a tape measurement, type in the litres from each milking, and note the feed used and the farm's expenses. It all happens on the website, from a computer or your phone's browser.

  3. Step 3: See what is due and what is changing

Each animal shows her status and the dates ahead. The farm dashboard shows who needs attention, your milk totals and what the farm has recorded for feed and costs, and you can download your records as CSV files.

Start free, grow when your herd does

Every plan includes fertility, weight, milk, feed and expense records and the fertility alerts. Starter and Growth also include the deworming schedule, and plans differ in how many animals and team members you can have.

Frequently asked questions

What is Dairy Vitals?

Dairy Vitals is record-keeping software for dairy farms. It keeps each animal's breeding and fertility history, weights (estimated from a tape measure or entered) and milk records, plus the farm's feed and expense records, in one place, and works out each animal's status and what is due next.

What can I track with Dairy Vitals?

Five things: fertility (heats, inseminations, pregnancy outcomes and treatments, with automatic status and next-expected dates), weight (estimates from heart girth and body length, or weights you enter, saved over time), milk production (the litres from every milking, recorded per animal or as the farm's total, with a farm dashboard and CSV reports), feed and expenses (the feeds you use, per bag or per kg, entered daily or as a monthly total, the farm's expenses such as salaries and bills, and an optional cost on a treatment or an insemination, with a monthly summary of what was recorded) and, on the Starter and Growth plans, your farm's deworming schedule (written once with your veterinarian, with a due date for each animal and doses recorded for one animal or the whole herd).

Is Dairy Vitals free?

Yes, there is a Free plan for up to 30 animals, with no credit card needed, and it includes fertility, weight, milk, feed and expense records. Paid plans add more animals and team members, the Basic reports and the deworming schedule, and the first farm on a new account also gets a 14-day trial of Starter. Prices are on the pricing page.

Does Dairy Vitals track deworming, and which plans include it?

Yes, on the Starter and Growth plans and in the 14-day Starter trial. Your farm writes its own deworming schedule once, by age or by pregnancy and calving, and Dairy Vitals shows which animals are due soon, due today or overdue. It does not tell you which product or amount to use: that is for you and your veterinarian. It is not part of the Free plan.

Do I need a scale to track weight?

Not necessarily. Dairy Vitals can estimate weight from two tape measurements, the heart girth and the body length, or you can type in a weight you already know. Dairy Vitals does not connect to scales: a tape estimate is not a scale reading, and an entered weight is saved exactly as you typed it. The weight calculator is free to use without an account.

Can I use Dairy Vitals on my phone?

The website is designed to work in a phone browser, so you can use it in the barn. A separate phone app is in development but is not yet available.

Can I take my data with me?

Yes. You can export all your records as a ZIP of CSV files at any time, on every plan, and open them in Excel or Google Sheets. Your data is yours.
